Retailers compete for flu shot business.
As cold and flu season draws near, retail chains have intensified promotions for in-store flu vaccines. According to Supermarketnews.com
, grocery and fuel discounts are a common theme. Among the campaigns: • United Supermarkets
, Lubbock, Texas, gives $5 off a grocery purchase to all those who get a flu shot or FluMist in September. • Target
, Minneapolis, is positioning itself as “Your One Stop for Flu Shots.”
The FDA says flu season commonly peaks in the U.S. in January or February but some states have already confirmed cases in 2013.
The flu vaccine
is available by shot or nasal spray and it is recommended that everyone 6 months of age and older should get the flu vaccine. Health professionals
say you should get your flu shot or spray as soon as it becomes available in your area.
Check with your neighborhood pharmacy
or healthcare provider to find out when the flu vaccine is available in your area.
